The Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) properly launched its newly established Career Guidance Centre on Monday. These guidance centres will offer solutions to medical students with career choices through workshops, resource center, individual counseling and mentorship programs.
Vice Chancellor DUHS Prof Masood Hameed Khan while speaking on the occasion, said that career guidance played a fundamental role in shaping the lives of today’s youth who had been facing severe career competition as well as having a wide range of career choices in terms of different disciplines. He insisted that the policymakers should create opportunities for the young generation to board on the career of their choice.
He further said that Pakistan had been facing a high unemployment rate and a severe skill shortage, adding: “Our schools have very little training and information to guide students vis-A-vis choosing their career path, as a result they often take poor decisions.” According to him, this vibrant center would provide a career exploration area wherein the learners would be able to use the multi-media for getting a true sense of the workplace and what it entailed. A resource area would be provided to both the learners and educators with all the resources they could possibly need.
Managing Director Pharm Evo Prof Haroon Qasim said that Dow University had really embraced the new technological age. He said that they had video and Internet as well as other impressive visuals to truly communicate with a new generation of career.
