Discrimination between government and private Schools & Colleges in Pakistan is increasing day by day. Private Schools & Colleges are more appreciated nowadays as many people prefer to induct their children in them. Due to financial problems most families cant afford their child to be in private institutions thus making those children’s future in doldrums. Major reason for this widening of distance is as under:
•Better resources of private sector as they upgrade themselves from time to time. Government Schools & Colleges do not have much resources
•Personal interests of Principal and staff due to more competition. In government personal interest is less due to their nature of appointment and when these are not on permanent basis.
•Greater income encourages entrepreneurs to improve their standards, which is not the case in government sector which has always financial crisis.
•Better standard of education as teachers attend courses frequently. In government additional courses are very often.
•Quick response time is preference of all at present. In government response is slow.
•Short procedures avoid cumbersome activities. In government a standard lengthy procedure is followed.
•Affiliation with international institutes is biggest advantage of private Schools & Colleges. Very few government Schools & Colleges are affiliated externally.
•Good facilities like generators, air conditioners, environments etc. In government one fan based class room without power backup is standard
•Latest course of studies are provided in private Schools & Colleges. In government courses are same since last 30 years or more.
•More emphasis on extracurricular activities is in private Schools & Colleges. In government this is seldom.
•English based studies and accent is more in private Schools & Colleges. In government its less.
•Branches in other major cities easing out parents in case if they move on other locations as the children do not have to shift over to new course
entirely of same standard. In government standards are varied.
•Private school branches are spread in same city providing ease in access for parents and closer to home. Government Schools & Colleges are at fixed locations.
Due ti large fees of private schools most of our people cant afford to admit their children in private schools and colleges or universities. So most valuable asset wasted here
Today it’s become a business to run private institutions. In every street a school or institute is opened in homes having no play ground and other facilities which is alarming.
Steps to initiate:
Government must improve government institutions both on physical and education level. Buildings must be upgraded to meet new standards.
Update the curriculum and education system to modern era
Install digital labs equipped with computers
Correctly use the financial aid received by Ministry of Education from international and national donors
Encourage students to take part in extra activities and make them social workers whenever needed
Government must form a authority that checks the quality of education in intervals to ensure better education system
Government must make laws for private institutes to meet a standard, any thing less than that should be banned.
